Case Study: Overview

For this Case Study, I was tasked in creating a 1:40 animated video on an infographic assignment we had created a couple terms ago. The theme for my infographic assignment that I had worked on was Comic book art styles throughout history. This was a culmination of different comic book covers, throughout various ages throughout history, and what they contributed for the comic community. In order for us to  get a good grasp on where to start on the assignment as far as motion, we were tasked to create a story board. That was the pieces would then create would already be in motion, and we would know where to start.

After the storyboard was made, we then created animatics to take the vision process that much more clear and provide more direction on where I wanted to take the assignment. An animatic is a rough visual preview of your animation, timed to the voice over and/or music. You might hear that description and think it sounds a lot like a storyboard, and in some ways it is. Both showcase the timing, pacing, and compositions of the frames.

With my direction noted, I started to create my assets in Adobe Photoshop. This was definitely the most difficult part of the assignment. In order for my assets to move the way I wanted them to, I needed to cut out large portions so that they would be noticeable to the viewer, but not too fast and distracting fast.

The final part to work on was making all the assets move and creating a setting for them. Unfortunately I was pressed for time, so the timeline had to be set on a z axis and come closer towards the camera as the comics were being presented.
