Title

(Yellow Jacket Logo)

Purpose

(In this portfolio piece I will discuss how I made my way to creating this artwork. Why I chose certain colors, why I utilized certain elements as nodes, and what audience I think this will tailor to and why.)

Background

(I wanted to create a cool looking logo that I could utilize for T-shirts, hats, sweatshirt etc. My target audience for this piece are teens and young adults who find their fashion sense associated with Tech wear. Teach Wear is an abbreviated term for technical wear, it specializes in looking tactical and fashionable. It’s basically streetwear with durable fabrics, and technical details that can withstand any type of weather.)

Body

(I got an idea for the Yellow Jacket logo from a cool looking jacket I saw on social media. The color automatically made me think of the wasp insect. It was at this point where I already knew what I was going to call my project. Yellow Jacket was a perfect name because it is not only the name of the insect would case the logo of, but it would also be implemented on yellow jackets and sweatshirts.)

Problem Statement

(The problem for me was figuring out what qualities of the Yellow Jacket to include in the logo without it being too much or heavy with detail. A logo is supposed to be iconic, not too much detail, but not to the point where it is looked at as clip art. People have to identify that it is a wasp with the details and colors they’ve been given.)

Solution

( In order to solve this issue, I looked up the anatomy of wasps and highlighted their key attributes that stick out. I found out that the main factors were the eyes, mouth, antennae, black and yellow colors, and finally the infamous stinger. For the color choice I used a bright yellow and black for the iconic bee hues. For the wings I went for a light gray. For the type I decided to take play with the word yellow jacket but in Japanese lettering. It is most common that Tech Wear use Japanese typefaces in their clothing in recognition of the influence they had on fashion and the futuristic aesthetic. )
